Sir Francis Walsingham

In 2009, I was commissioned to build a costume for an actor portraying Sir Francis Walsingham at the Northern California Renaissance Faire. The velveteen provided had a diamond-shaped burnout pattern on the straight grain. In order to cord the undersleeves horizontally along squares rather than diamonds, I corded on the bias by flatlining to a base set on straight grain. I then lightly beaded the undersleeves to bring a little light into the very dark pile.
